Five years of Guantánamo: Justice delayed is justice denied

Today, 11 January 2007, marks the fifth anniversary of the unlawful and indefinite detention of hundreds of people at the US run detention centre in Guantánamo Bay, Cuba.

Around 400 detainees, of 35 different nationalities, remain held at Guantánamo Bay, without trial.

Many of these detainees have never even been charged and do not have access to any court, legal counsel or family visits. They are in legal limbo and have been denied their rights under international law.

Take action

Amnesty International is demanding the closure of Guantánamo Bay, fair trials and justice for all.

Visit our website today and take part in our global action. Please also encourage you friends to get involved.

There have also been countless allegations of torture and other ill treatment, not only from current and former detainees, but also from the FBI and other agencies.

Thirty one year old Australian, David Hicks, has been held at the detention centre since January 2002.

Enough is enough. Amnesty International is calling on the US Government to close Guantánamo Bay for good.

To add your voice to the growing number of people around the world who oppose the icon of lawlessness that is Guantánamo Bay, we need you to take part in our global Guantánamo Flotilla - enjoy the trip!
