I emailed you on Monday morning to ask if you will please make a tax-time donation towards Amnesty International Australia’s work. If you have already responded, thank you very much, and please keep reading. If you have not, I need you to respond today. Gifts received by Monday are tax-deductible in this financial year.
You will be supporting the courage of people like Huang Qi in the face of injustice. Following the collapse of a school during China’s earthquake, killing five children, human rights activist Huang Qi had been investigating corruption in the local authorities resulting in poor standards of construction of public buildings. Two weeks ago, he was abducted and imprisoned. Detained for ‘illegally acquiring state secrets’, he is at risk of torture and ill-treatment. Not even his legal advisor has been allowed to see him.
If you haven’t already done so, please take this opportunity to support the courage of human rights activists like Huang Qi by making a tax-time donation now.
Your support of Amnesty International achieves real results. Last Friday, China released 1,157 people – the day after Amnesty published its report on the missing 1,000 Tibetan protesters. With your continued support we will stand against injustice – wherever and whenever it takes place. Please make a tax-time gift to Amnesty International Australia today.
Thank you for all you do to make the world a more just, humane and secure place.
Yours sincerely,
Claire Mallinson
PS: If you have already supported our tax-time campaign, thank you. Please forward this email on to your friends and family, asking them to show their support.
