On 25 November 1960, the three Mirabal sisters were assassinated in the Dominican Republic for their political activism. This event became a symbol of the crisis of violence against women in Latin America. In memory of their struggle, people around the world today celebrate the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

Protect Nicaraguan women rights defenders

Nine women human rights defenders are facing legal proceedings for assisting a nine-year-old Nicaraguan girl, Rosita, to obtain an abortion. Rosita was raped by her step-father and made pregnant in 2003. Urge the Nicaraguan authorities to close this case or guarantee a fair trial.
