Dear friend,
I would like to thank you sincerely for the real action you’ve taken over the last few months to help change the conversation about refugees in Australia.
I know raising this issue in your own community with people you know can be daunting – but it is these personal conversations that are the most effective form of activism.
As we know, serious and lasting change takes time. We still have a long way to go, but we are committed to working on this issue in the long term. We need you to help generate even more momentum to get Australians to rethink refugees.
In the next month, we are calling on people all over the country to do one of the following:
Contact your local Member of Parliament: MPs want to be involved in their communities and hear about what matters to you, and it is their job to represent your concerns in parliament. Download a simple how-to here.
Write a letter to the Editor: This is one of the most well-read and talked about sections of a newspaper, and getting published in your local paper is a powerful way to spread the message further. Download a simple how-to here.
Hold a social get-together: Your friends and family care what you have to say, and probably want the chance to hang out together! So why not have a simple get-together and discuss refugees in Australia? Download a simple how-to here.
We want to hear from you! Remember to let us know what you have done so we can keep you in the loop with new ways to keep making a difference. Your feedback and experience helps us keep our campaign on track, and your stories might help to inspire even more people into action!
So send your stories, your photos and your questions to rethinkrefugees@amnesty.org.au
In hope,
Alex Pagliaro Refugee Campaign Coordinator
