Dear friend,
We don't usually send an email so late on a Friday, but I just
received breaking news on my mobile phone from Amnesty
International's researcher in Thailand: 'Aung San Suu Kyi's trial
will resume today'.
As you recently took action and called for justice for Aung San
Suu Kyi, I wanted you to be the first to know.
In a few hours time Aung San Suu Kyi, who is reported to be in
poor health, will be escorted by guards from the appalling
conditions of Insein prison - where torture and ill treatment is
frequently metered out - to a courtroom where her trial will
resume.
When the trial concludes, for better or for worse, we'll be ready
to respond - but we need to pull together a team of dedicated
activists to amplify our voice on city streets throughout
Australia.
Will you put your name forward to attend a public action in the
event of Aung San Suu Kyi's imprisionment or detention?
To add your name, go to: http://www.amnesty.org.au/action/assk
Together, we're achieving real change. In May almost 10,000
Amnesty International supporters called on the Association of
Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to bring justice to Aung San Suu
Kyi. Just days later ASEAN made the unprecedented statement that
Aung San Suu Kyi should be released. Your passion and your
commitment made that happen.
Thank you for standing up and reaching out, we'll be in touch.
