The secret hanging of Delara Darabi

Dear friend,

Delara Darabi
Delara Darabi

We have some sad news.

On the morning of 1 May, Iranian authorities executed Delara Darabi, despite her having been given a two-month stay of execution by the Head of the Judiciary on 19 April.

Delara Darabi was convicted of murdering a relative in 2003 when she was 17. She initially confessed to the murder, believing she could save her boyfriend from the gallows, but later retracted her confession. She was detained at Rasht Prison in northern Iran since her arrest in 2003.

Delara’s execution was reportedly carried out in secrecy in the early hours of that Friday morning.

Despite tragic outcomes, Amnesty International continues to work for individuals at risk of human rights violations around the world with your help.

If you haven’t already, please subscribe to our regular newsletter and regularly check our online action centre to help people at risk of human rights violations.

Thank you again for your efforts in defending human rights.
